Grocery budget calculator
Put in what you spend on food each week or month. See it as a weekly budget, a share per person and per day, and how much to keep back for top-ups.
Your food budget
Enter what you spend on food, or what you want to spend, and the split shows here: by week and month, per person, and how much to keep back for top-ups.
How much should you spend on groceries?
It depends on where you live, who you feed and what you already have, so start from what you really spend. Add up a month of shopping receipts, or a few weeks of mobile money and card payments for food, and put that in the calculator.
Then decide on a number you can keep to. Most households find it easier to plan a week at a time than a month, which is why the weekly figure is the big one.
Why keep some back for top-ups?
The big shop is never the whole story. Bread, milk, eggs and whatever runs out midweek add up. Keeping a share of the weekly budget back for them means the big shop has a firm limit, and top-ups don't eat into next week.
How the numbers are worked out
A month is counted as 52 weeks divided by 12, so a weekly and a monthly budget convert both ways exactly. Per person is the weekly budget shared equally, and per day is that divided by seven. Nothing you type leaves this page.
